My Views on Homework

Homework issues come up every year. Students feel it takes away from their free time. Parents are very busy in the evening and don't always have time to help or make sure homework is done.

However, I believe homework is an important tool in education.

    1) Students learn responsibility.

    2) Students learn to work more independently.

    3) Students have a chance to apply or review what they have learned in school.

    4) Parents have a chance to see what their student is learning.

Homework Chart

Every nine weeks each student starts with three cards (green, yellow, red) on the homework chart. Anytime they fail to do or finish a homework assignment  they lose a card. At the end of the nine weeks if they have all three cards they win a pop. If they have only lost one card they receive a sticker. Parents will be notified if the student loses all the cards during the nine weeks. We start over at the start of each nine weeks.

Homework is very seldom assigned on weekends in my classes. Mr. Lee sometimes assigns science homework.

Sticker Chart

A student receives a sticker for different activities in class such as winning a game, having three consecutive A's on spelling tests, doing an exceptional job on an assignment, etc.

When the student wins ten stickers, he or she will get a free assignement card which entitles them to skip one daily assignment.

Book sales

The Students are required to read 6 books for book sales throughout the year. The dates for book sales will usually be on Upcoming Events.
