HURLEY
ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
The Hurley Alumni Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 with donations
from Hurley Alumni members.
Two $600.00 scholarships will be awarded in 2008.
In addition to the Alumni Scholarships, the Merchants State Bank Harris
L. Hofer Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $500.00 will be given by
Merchants State Bank. Selection of
the recipient will also be made from this application.
Seniors are honored guests at the Alumni Banquet on the second Saturday
in June , which will be June 14, 2008 (you will receive an invitation at
graduation time). YOUR PRESENCE IS
REQUIRED unless
you are away for military service, as the scholarships will be awarded at the banquet.
If the
previous attendance requirements are not met, the scholarship will be
awarded to an alternate,

PLEASE NOTE: The GPA of 2.75
is only a qualification. It plays
no part in the selection of the recipient!
The applications are numbered, and the cover sheet removed, so the
selection committee does not know the identity of the applicants.
In the activities section, circle the year or years of participation - 1
for Freshman, 2 for Sophomore, 3 for Junior, or 4 for Senior years.
Circle EACH YEAR of participation.
Fill all areas out as completely as possible, and please type.
Neatness counts!
In the “How to Finance” section, enter any scholarships that have
already been awarded (including amounts), if you expect any parental help,
loans, if you will be working, etc.
In the “Future Goals” section, we would like to know the field you
will be pursuing, if known. If not,
what your interests may be, along with your long-range plans.
In the section “I would like this scholarship because” - we had
originally thought this should be “why I deserve this scholarship”, but felt
that many of the students do not like to “toot their own horn” so to speak,
but this may give you an idea of what we are looking for.
We hope the essay questions will give us a much better insight into the
needs and goals of the student, thus making the selection of the recipient
easier for the committee. This is a
very important part of the application. It
has been difficult to select the recipients from those applying in the past
years, and we know it will also be a difficult job this year. There are many excellent students in Hurley High School, all
deserving of these scholarships, so how the application is completed will be
